About the 1/4 inch graph paper
Quarter-inch graph paper has four squares to the inch, which is the size most US classrooms use for graphing, area and perimeter work, and keeping long multiplication and division neatly in columns. Every square on this sheet measures exactly 0.25 in when printed at 100% scale on US Letter, so anything measured off the page is accurate. If you need a finer grid try centimeter paper; for younger children, half-inch or one-inch squares are easier to write inside.
