About the 1/2 inch graph paper
Half-inch graph paper gives two squares to the inch. The larger cells suit early grades, where a child needs room to write one digit per square, and they are ideal for area and perimeter tasks where each square stands for one square unit. Older students usually move down to quarter-inch paper once their handwriting has shrunk.
