About these worksheets
Naming the fraction a picture shows is the first real fraction skill: the denominator counts equal parts, the numerator counts shaded ones. Every sheet’s twelve circles run halves through eighths in mixed order. Answers stay unsimplified on purpose (four shaded eighths is 4/8 here, not 1/2) — the picture-to-symbols link comes first; equivalence is its own lesson on the equivalent fractions worksheet.

Frequently asked questions
Should 4/8 be simplified to 1/2?
Not at this stage. The exercise is naming what the picture shows — 4 shaded parts out of 8. Recognizing that 4/8 equals 1/2 is the next lesson, and the fraction circles make it visible.
What denominators appear?
Halves through eighths, shuffled so the parts must actually be counted each time.
What comes after these worksheets?
