About these worksheets
Naming the fraction a picture shows is the first real fraction skill: the denominator counts equal parts, the numerator counts shaded ones. These twelve circles run halves through eighths in mixed order. Answers stay unsimplified on purpose (four shaded eighths is 4/8 here, not 1/2) — the picture-to-symbols link comes first; equivalence is its own lesson on the equivalent fractions worksheet.

Should 4/8 be simplified to 1/2?
Not at this stage. The exercise is naming what the picture shows — 4 shaded parts out of 8. Recognising that 4/8 equals 1/2 is the next lesson, and the fraction circles make it visible.
What denominators appear?
Halves through eighths, shuffled so the parts must actually be counted each time.
