About these worksheets
The set gets harder every two sheets, so one download covers a mixed class or a family with children in different grades. Sheets 1 and 2 add and subtract within 20. Sheets 3 and 4 do the same with two-digit numbers, and every one of those problems needs regrouping. Sheets 5 and 6 are multiplication and division within 100. Sheets 7 and 8 are 4th-grade work: two-step stories, numbers up into the thousands, and one division problem on each sheet that leaves a remainder. No story is used twice in the set. Every problem has space to work underneath and an answer line with the unit already printed. The answer keys show the number sentence as well as the answer, so you can tell whether a wrong answer came from picking the wrong operation or from an arithmetic slip.
For a quieter December activity, the Christmas color by number pages have 30 pictures to color, including a Christmas tree, a stocking and a gingerbread house, each with its own answer key.

Frequently asked questions
Which sheets should I print for my grade?
Sheets 1 and 2 (within 20) fit 1st grade. Sheets 3 and 4 (two-digit adding and subtracting with regrouping) are 2nd grade, sheets 5 and 6 (multiplication and division within 100) are 3rd grade, and sheets 7 and 8 (two-step problems and bigger numbers) are 4th grade. Each pair follows that grade’s Common Core word-problem standard: 1.OA.1, 2.OA.1, 3.OA.3 and 4.OA.3.
How do the remainder problems work?
Sheet 7 asks how many tins Grandma needs for 67 cookies, 6 to a tin: 67 ÷ 6 = 11 R 1, and the last cookie still needs a tin, so the answer is 12. Sheet 8 asks how many whole bows Ben can make from 106 inches of ribbon at 9 inches a bow: 106 ÷ 9 = 11 R 7, and 7 inches is not enough for another bow, so the answer is 11. The question decides what to do with the remainder.
Do the answer keys show the work?
Yes. Each key shows the number sentence for every problem, and two-step problems get two lines. For Aunt Rosa’s ornament shopping on sheet 8, the key shows 4 × $7 = $28, then $50 − $28 = $22. The answer is written on the line, so a stack of sheets is quick to grade.
What are the stories about?
Family and school traditions most children know: baking and decorating cookies, wrapping presents, hanging stockings, putting up lights, sending cards, the class party, the holiday concert, a toy drive, and Santa’s workshop and sleigh.
