What amounts are used?
A two-digit dollar amount plus a one-digit dollar amount, both with cents — sums stay under $110.
How do you add money in columns?
Line up the decimal points, then add from the right: pennies, then dimes, then dollars, carrying as usual. When the cents come to a dollar or more, as in $99.57 + $5.51, the extra dollar carries across the point into the ones column. Bring the point straight down and put a dollar sign on the answer.
