Multiplication flash cards (1–12) — free printable PDF preview

All 24 pages: fronts and answers for each table

Pages come in pairs, a sheet of facts and then its answers, so the full PDF prints double-sided in the right order. To redo one table, print just its two pages from the full PDF by typing a page range in the print dialog: the 6s, for example, are pages 11 and 12.

How to print it

  1. Download all the pages. Press “Download PDF (24 pages)” under the preview. The fronts and answers alternate, so the file is ready for two-sided printing. The buttons on each page in the gallery print a single sheet.
  2. Print two-sided, flip on long edge. In the print dialog choose two-sided printing with flip on long edge (some printers call it long-edge binding), so each answer sheet lands on the back of its own facts. With a one-sided printer, print every page and glue each answer sheet to the back of its facts, as the questions below explain.
  3. Cut out the cards. Cut along the dashed lines. Light card stock lasts far longer than copy paper.

About the multiplication flash cards

Each times table fills one sheet of twelve cards, and the sheet after it holds the answers, mirrored so they land behind the right facts. Every answer card also shows its fact in small type in one corner, so loose cards can still be matched. One table per sheet lets a child work on a single table, then add that stack to the earlier ones once it is solid. A common order is 2s, 5s and 10s first, then 3s, 4s and 6s, with 7s, 8s, 9s, 11s and 12s last. By then most cards are facts already met the other way around: the 7s sheet has 7 × 3, which the 3s sheet covered as 3 × 7.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print the cards double-sided?

Download the full PDF and choose two-sided printing with flip on long edge (some print dialogs call it long-edge binding). The pages alternate facts and answers, so each answer sheet prints on the back of its own table. Flip on short edge puts the answers behind the wrong cards. Print pages 1 and 2 of the PDF as a test before running all 24.

What if my printer only prints on one side?

Print the fact sheet and its answer sheet separately. Turn the answer sheet over sideways, like turning a book page, so its top edge stays at the top. Glue the fact sheet face up on top of it with the top edges together, then cut along the dashed lines. You can also skip the gluing: each answer card shows its fact in small type in the corner, so separate stacks of fact cards and answer cards still match up.

How many cards are in the set?

144, twelve for each times table from 1 to 12, so each table fills exactly one sheet. The front of every card carries its table in small type in the top corner (6s, 7s and so on), which makes it easy to put shuffled cards back in the right pile.

What is a good way to practice with flash cards?

Short sessions, one table at a time. Shuffle the cards and sort them into know and not-yet piles as you go, then begin the next session with the not-yet pile. When a table is solid, mix it in with the earlier ones and time a run through the whole stack, then try to beat that time another day.
